The Energy of Georg Weiss Creative - innovative thinking
For more than fifty years, Georg Weiss (1942-2014) created subtly evocative artworks.
Georg Weiss was possessed by his work. He was ruthless with himself in his process of artistic creativity. The great continuum of his oeuvre was its precision craftsmanship and the will toward ongoing transformation. From within himself, Georg Weiss felt and responded to the impetus to translate his thoughts into the world of visual art. Georg Weiss participated in the world through
his creations. He always refered to developments in politics, society, technology, and science. This participation in contemporary developments manifests itself in his choice of themes, mode of presentation in public space, and (last but not least) in the way he implemented and manifested
his artworks. Since 1998, he has created his artworks solely with the aid of a computer. He
continually explored and expanded the technical limits, always working the latest and highest-performance hardware and software. In everything he created, Georg Weiss payed no need to conventional public tastes, opinions, and trends. Georg Weiss was a lone wolf.
ABOUT THE WORK
The oeuvre of Georg Weiss was borne upon tremendous earnestness and the will to trigger feelings and emotions. He rebeled against social and technological developments which reduce the individual to a mere functional element. Georg Weiss recognized the danger and risks of our modern industrial society and battles for freedom of thought, action, and feeling. He demanded of himself and others a high degree of sensitivity toward developments that divide people
from themselves and others. In his own words, he created "worlds". When he said this, Georg Weiss meant that his artworks do not merely involve formal, aesthetic, and craftsmanship aspects, but are also a message which, based on the foundation of his mastery of craftmanship, he translated into the language
of the visual arts.
